Media Center Mission Statement
The Media Center Fair Oaks Elementary School seeks to empower our student leaders to be:
- critical thinkers,
- enthusiastic readers,
- skillful researchers, and
- ethical users and creators of information.
It's another busy year here at the Fair Oaks media center. In addition to class and individual student visits, lessons, and being the technology hub of the school, we also host two book fairs every year, hold a Folk Tale Bowl, participate in the school's Hispanic Heritage Month celebration, and much more. We get new shipments of books regularly, and right now, we're trying to make sure we have the right selection of books to go with the new Common Core Curriculum.
This year, we continue to support Fair Oaks as a Leadership School, following the "7 Habits of Highly Effective People". For us in the media center, that means encouraging students to make good choices, whether it's choosing the right book or helping another student understand how to use Destiny (our online catalog system). We also work to develop students into leaders by recruiting Library Leaders who help out in the media center in the mornings and afternoons. In addition, we have a list of books that exemplifies each habit, and we incorporate those books into our read-alouds. We also have an easy way for teachers to locate those books in the media center. We're looking forward to seeing what a difference the Leadership model makes in the lives of our students!
